gamescom 2025: Game Servers on Bare Metal

gamescom 2025 filled the Koelnmesse in Cologne from 20 to 24 August 2025, and velia.net was there. It is the week the games industry puts its next year on show, and the week every studio remembers that a launch is a traffic spike with a date on it.

A multiplayer match is only as fair as the machine it runs on. When a game server shares its host, the neighbour's busy evening becomes your players' lag, and the players blame the game. We went to Cologne to talk about the machine under the match.

Networking and Innovation

A conference does what a call cannot: it puts the team with the problem and the people with the hardware at the same table. These were the conversations we went to Cologne to have.

  • Game server hardware sized for launch day, not for an average Tuesday.
  • What one physical machine with no other customer on it changes for consistency.
  • Serving players from Frankfurt, Strasbourg, New York, Miami, St. Louis and Singapore under one operator.
  • Monthly terms and zero setup fee for studios whose player count moves with every release.

Key Points of our Attendance

Our focus at gamescom stayed on four themes:

  • The worst minute matters more than the average one.
  • No hypervisor between the workload and the metal.
  • No shared tenancy, so nobody else's workload sits next to yours.
  • A named city on the contract, not a region in a console.
